I graduated!

I could literally write a love letter to school - I’m so grateful to be able to have had an education because it allowed me to know myself. I am so thankful for the people that pushed me to continue with my schooling even after the uncertainty of my direction after graduating high school. I actually wanted to go back to Mexico to do get my Bachelors degree and I toured the schools and did exams in order to get as much financial aid as possible but unfortunately I didn’t have good enough english or spanish to be awarded a complete scholarship. At the end of the day I was adviced and decided to stay in the US because it was just the smarter decision. I then started my education at San Diego Miramar college and I remember looking around me and remembering the negativity that lived in high school in ending up in community college. I didn’t understand as I had free school and I was able to live at home and work and save money. Then the pandemic happened and it made sense that I was there. It was time to transfer and I was also in the dilemma of where should I go? My last semester of community college I had a free class to take and I decided to take a crafts class and the instructor was so incredible and something clicked for me. It was also the pandemic so I was doing a lot of beading that I taught myself. They encouraged me to continue this interest for working with my hands at San Diego State and I am forever so grateful for them to have said that to me. I took it and ran with it and did everything I could to take these jewelry classes. So I enrolled the 2D design class that would fill the pre-requisites for the jewelry classes. One Fall semester the Jewelry club had their annual sale and I decided to buy this necklace. When I went up to the table to check out I was met with this lady that conversed with me about the necklace she looked at me and spotted my beaded square necklace that I had made. She asked if I had made it and I said yes! she asked if I had considered taking the jewelry classes at State and I said I was on track but I still had to take 3D design and then she offered to just waive it for me. that was another moment that
