Statement
Fernanda Gaspar is an artist and jeweler who creates elegant objects in relation to the body. Whether worn as jewelry or used to adorn space, her works speak to personal experiences and capture specific moments and emotions. Each piece functions as a journal entry, often accompanied by writing, photography, or video. Through thoughtful attention to concept and design, her work reveals a cohesive narrative to the viewer.
I make conceptual work that..
shares a story. I have a deep care for concept and design thinking of how they “come together to reveal the narrative to the viewer” The work reconciles my deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the practice of creating meaning-filled objects. I grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico amidst women that loved crafts, they instilled in me a deep appreciation for tradition. My work reflects those traditions by the techniques and topics I choose to talk about.
Bio
My objects…
are experimental and often depart from a question. wondering if a certain technique will work, or if an idea can be developed in a certain material. Sometimes I enjoy making objects that don’t have a story attached to them and can just be beautiful.
be a part of my past experiences…
whether it’s a past exhibition, a class I taught or artist talks. This is my archival page!
